Man arrested after pointing gun at Phoenix police, officers say

The incident happened Sunday evening near 39th Avenue and Cactus Road, according to police

PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer shot at a man and arrested him late Sunday night, the city's police department said.

Officers arrived at the scene near 39th Avenue and Cactus Road after getting phone calls saying a man was firing a gun in the backyard, the department said. When police were talking with the 911 caller at the scene, the man reportedly entered the home and started firing his gun at the ground.

Police got behind cover and heard several other gunshots fired in the home, officers said. An officer shot at the man and missed when the man allegedly came outside and pointed the gun at police.

Police shot the man with a non-lethal round when he came out again and was taken into custody, the department said.

No officers or members of the community were injured.

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
