A man was shot dead in downtown Phoenix this February. Police just arrested his suspected killer.

Police said the incident happened on Feb. 5 near 24th and Roosevelt streets. A 44-year-old man died.

PHOENIX — A man has been arrested in connection with a high-profile shooting that left one man dead and a neighborhood without power in February.

On Feb. 5, a man was found dead in a crashed vehicle after he was possibly shot near 24th and Roosevelt streets in downtown Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Responding officers found the vehicle crashed into a pole, downing powerlines in the area and leaving officers unable to reach the car. Once electrical crews were able to shut down the power, police found 44-year-old Erik Lagunas inside with a gunshot wound. Lagunas died on the scene.

Officers said they detained a man who might have been involved with the incident but was later released.

Months later, police identified 34-year-old Joe Watson as the suspected shooter. He was arrested on April 23 and booked into jail on multiple felony charges.

The investigation is still active as police continue to build a case.
