Homicide victim's stepson arrested by Phoenix police

The victim was fatally shot Saturday evening near the intersection of 40th Avenue and Hadley Street. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police arrested the stepson of a man who was shot in west Phoenix on Saturday. 

Phoenix police officers responded to the area of 40th Avenue and Hadley Street around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 regarding a shooting. When officers got to the scene, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound. 

The man, later identified as 32-year-old Jose Angel Ruiz Leyva, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He later died officials said. 

Police released images of the car that was related to the homicide to the public and quickly were able to identify it. The car was registered to 20-year-old Jorge Ramirez, who is the stepson of Leyva, police said.

According to police, a shooting took place after a verbal argument between the two men at a home nearby, police said. Ramirez was arrested on Feb. 4 and booked into jail. He is facing multiple felonies, including murder, police said.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
