Woman arrested in connection to hit-and-run that left motorcyclist dead

Paula Miller, 73, has been arrested following a crash that left 31-year-old Katerina Penrose dead, according to police.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department arrested a woman in connection with a December hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist dead.

Paula Miller, 73, was located and arrested Jan. 29, police said, for her alleged involvement in a crash that left 31-year-old Katerina Penrose dead.

The crash happened on Dec. 14, 2023 near 13th Street and Thunderbird Road. Police said Penrose was riding westbound on Thunderbird Road when another vehicle turned out in front of her, leading to the crash.

"The other vehicle involved in the collision took off from the area prior to police arrival and remains outstanding," police said in a news release at the time of the crash.

Penrose was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash. Doctors were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.

Following the incident, police called for witnesses to come forward to help them find the driver involved in the crash. After an "extensive search," Miller was identified as the driver who left the scene following the crash.

Miller is facing multiple charges including leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death, police said.
