7-vehicle crash leaves adult dead, child critically injured

A tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when it failed to stop and caused a collision other vehicles.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — One person is dead, a child is in critical condition, and numerous others are injured after a seven-vehicle crash near Buckeye on Monday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

A tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when it failed to stop and caused a collision with another vehicle after failing to stop while going through a construction zone, DPS said. The crash caused a chain reaction with the other vehicles.

The driver of the semi-truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital in critical condition, while the passengers of the other vehicles all had non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash originally closed the affected lanes of Interstate 10 near Buckeye, according to the ADOT. The lanes have since reopened.

Officials have not released the name of the person killed in the crash.

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
