Juvenile nearly sexually assaulted in Mesa over weekend, police asking for help identifying suspect

MESA, Ariz. — Police are looking for the man who attempted to sexually assault a minor in Mesa over the weekend, according to authorities. 

The Mesa Police Department said the attempted assault happened on Saturday just before 9 p.m. near University Drive and Sossaman Road.

The suspect ran away following the incident, police said.

Police said they are working with the victim to get a composite sketch of the suspect and expect to release it in the coming days.

Police gave the following description of the suspect:

  • Black male
  • Between 25 and 40 years old
  • 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • Medium build
  • Goatee-style beard, longer and thicker on the chin
  • Dark spiky hair
  • Wearing a black hoodie and dark pants

Anyone with information or who thinks they might know who the man is should contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644–2211. 

Police are also urging everyone to use caution and stay vigilant with the suspect on the loose.

They said to remember to lock all doors and windows. Residents should turn on their outdoor lights. Anyone who sees something suspicious should call 911.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
