Suspect arrested in murder of Tolleson council member's father

Jimmy Davis Sr. was found in the driveway of a home near 95th Avenue and Interstate 10

TOLLESON, Ariz. — Police in Tolleson have a arrested a suspect in the homicide of the father of a local member of the city council, officials said.

The victim, identified as 53-year-old Jimmy Davis, was found Sunday in the driveway of a home near 95th Avenue and Interstate 10, police said. Investigators believe Davis and the killer knew each other.

Police said Wednesday that 34-year-old Bryan Ray Lecate has been arrested on suspicion of shooting Davis. It appears the victim and suspect had gotten into a verbal altercation before Davis was killed, police said.

Jimmy Davis Jr., a member of the Tolleson City Council, is the victim's son.

"I am devastated by the loss of my father and humbly request privacy for our family during this time of mourning," Davis wrote in a statement.

Police said it does not appear the homicide had any connection to the city nor the council member.
