Arizona man gets 24 years for 2021 murder

A Bylas man has been sentenced to serve 293 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

PHOENIX — An Arizona man has been sentenced to serve more the 24 years in prison for a 2021 murder, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

On Jan. 6, the agency said Marvin Tona, 48, of Bylas, was sentenced to 293 months in federal prison after he plead guilty to second-degree murder for a deadly shooting in Bylas.

The shooting happened at a Bylas home located on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation on Sept. 5, 2021, according to the agency. 

During the incident, Tona got into an argument with the victim, who was his one-time friend. During the argument, Tona fired a gun into a bedroom at the home and the bullet fatally struck the victim, the agency said.

Silent Witness:

Arizona's Silent Witness program allows people to send in tips and share information about crimes happening within their local communities.

The program shares unsolved felony case information in multiple ways, including TV, radio and social media.

Anyone who has information on a crime or recognizes a suspect described by the program is asked to call 480-948-6377, go to the program's website online or download the Silent Witness app to provide a tip. The identity of anyone who submits a tip is kept anonymous.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
