Two women swept away by flash flood in Cochise County

One woman climbed out of the water and another was rescued from being stuck in the mud overnight.

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — Rescue efforts were needed after a flash flood in Cochise County caused two women to be swept away in the water Friday evening, officials said. 

The two women were at a the bank of a wash by the Cascabel area near Leyenda Lane when the flood came through around 8 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff's Office said.

The women were swept about 1/4 of a mile away from the wash. One woman was able to climb out of the water and get help while the other woman was last seen holding onto a tree branch.

The second woman was found alive, trapped under mud and debris around 7:40 a.m. Saturday.
