17-year-old girl dies in Peoria crash

Police say the crash happened Wednesday near Cholla Street and 75th Avenue.

PEORIA, Ariz. — A 17-year-old girl is dead following a crash in Peoria Wednesday, according to authorities.

The Peoria Police Department said the two-vehicle crash happened just before 11 a.m. near Cholla Street and 75th Avenue.

The crash involved a Chevrolet Avalanche and a Toyota Scion.

"Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling southbound on 75th Avenue. The Toyota Scion was turning left onto westbound Cholla Street. This collision occurred in the middle of the intersection," police said.

Police said the occupants of the Scion were seriously injured in the crash. One of them, a 17-year-old girl, later died at an area hospital.

The teen's name was not released.

The driver of the Avalanche had minor injuries.
