PHOENIX — A man is dead following a crash in south Phoenix involving an alleged drunk driver, the city's police said.

Phoenix police responded to the area of 16th and Elwood streets around 8 p.m. for a pedestrian-involved crash on Tuesday, police said.

Officers and fire personnel responded to the area and found a man with critical injuries. Emergency medical treatment was provided, but the man did not survive his injuries and died at the scene, police said.

The pedestrian was walking in the road when a truck driving south on 16th Street hit him. The driver of the truck, 64-year-old Steven Muniz, stayed at the scene and was processed for driving under the influence and issued a criminal citation, police said.
