'I'm so glad you found the light': Valley family mourns loved one killed in fiery I-10 crash

Andrew Standifird was killed after a horrific crash on the I-10 last Thursday.

PHOENIX — Andrew Standifird’s life was in the midst of a turnaround when a horrific semi-truck crash claimed his life.

The 28-year-old father of three was a beloved son and husband. However, he dealt with addiction issues throughout his life.

"Andrew was a very charismatic, loving, giving, just a very social person," Sarah Standifird, Andrew's mother, said.

"Music and love were Andrew. He was all about his music; he was all about helping people," Athena Dubberstein, Andrew's wife, said.

A few months ago, his family says Andrew got the upper hand on his addiction.

“This last time, he found his faith, and it made all the difference,” Dubberstein said.

Andrew found God, got sober, and found a job he loved. “As I said, the best was yet to come,” Dubberstein said.

On January 12, Andrew was carpooling to work when a semi-truck slammed into his vehicle.

“Out of the whole accident, his wallet was the only thing that survived it,” Standifird said. “And I had to send over his dental records so they can identify him."

“When you lose someone unexpected like that, it’s not real; it’s not real. You are waiting to wake up, and you don’t wake up," Dubberstien said.

The family is left dealing with the nightmare, trying to find a way to fill the hole he left behind.

"I miss him," Standifird said, "I love you, and I'm so glad you found the light."

If you want to help the family pay for funeral costs, the family has a GoFundMe here.
