Man shot in Phoenix, drives up to crash scene for help from police

Police were working the scene of a crash near 19th Avenue and McDowell Road Thursday night when the man drove up injured.

PHOENIX — An investigation into a crash in Phoenix Thursday night took a strange turn when a man with a gunshot wound drove up to the scene, city police said.

The crash happened around 9:10 p.m. near 19th Avenue and McDowell Road. Roughly an hour into the investigation, the man arrived and officers realized that he had been shot.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.

Detectives are working to learn where and when the man was shot and what led up to the shooting.

The man's identity has not been disclosed.
