Phoenix-bound flight forced to land in Oklahoma City after man allegedly took another passenger's property by force, police say

Durrell Williams was detained by two passengers, Oklahoma City Police say.

PHOENIX — An American Airlines flight headed to Phoenix from Atlanta was forced to land in Oklahoma City due to what was described as a "disruptive customer" by officials with the airline.

Durrell Williams allegedly attempted to take a woman's property by force and then assaulted two other passengers on the flight, Oklahoma City police said. Two additional passengers immediately detained Williams while the flight attendants restrained him, police said.

Thursday night law enforcement was waiting for flight 744 to land in Oklahoma City, Tim Wetzel with the airline told 12News. Williams was later transported and booked into jail, police said.

"We thank our team for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," said Wetzel.

The aircraft departed for Phoenix a short time after the diversion.
