Young woman admits to stabbing her aunt to death in Phoenix, police say

Police said the woman was found dead Sunday afternoon near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — A woman has died in a stabbing in west Phoenix and a member of her family was taken into custody, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said the woman was found dead Sunday afternoon at around 1:45 p.m. in a home near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road

Police the victim was 75-year-old Ruby Pittman.

"When officers made contact with the home, they located an adult female inside with at least one stab wound," police said in a news release.

Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Icess Woodcox, 27, has been booked into jail in connection to the stabbing. Woodcox had allegedly admitted to stabbing her aunt.

"The adult female that originally contacted officers about the homicide, again made admissions about being responsible for the murder of Pittman," police said.

Court records show Woodcox allegedly told investigators she was at home reading the Bible and she knew "something bad was about to happen." The suspect then allegedly grabbed two knives, drove to her relative's home and stabbed them.

A knife was allegedly found in Woodcox's possession when she made contact with police, records show.
