Silent Witness reward offered after deadly Mesa shooting

Gavin Wadzinski was shot and killed on April 21 near Thomas and Recker roads, police said.

A reward of $2,000 is being offered by Silent Witness for information on a homicide in Mesa that happened earlier this month.

The Mesa Police Department said on April 21, Gavin Wadzinski, 23, was shot and killed near Thomas and Recker roads. 

Officers responded to reports of a man "down and unresponsive" and found Wadzinski on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. They tried to help Wadzinski but he died at the scene, police said.

Now investigators are asking anyone with security cameras in the area north of the 202 Red Mountain Freeway on Recker Road to look at their recording for anything that might help with the investigation.

Silent Witness:

Arizona's Silent Witness program allows people to send in tips and share information about crimes happening within their local communities.

The program shares unsolved felony case information in multiple ways, including TV, radio and social media.

Anyone who has information on a crime or recognizes a suspect described by the program is asked to call 480-948-6377, go to the program's website online or download the Silent Witness app to provide a tip. The identity of anyone who submits a tip is kept anonymous.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Gavin Wadzinski, tragically wounded by a gunshot. Despite their efforts, Gavin was pronounced deceased at the scene. Now, homicide investigators are reaching out to the community, appealing for their assistance. They urge residents to review any surveillance footage for signs of suspicious activity that could shed light on this tragic event. Specifically, we are asking the residents north of the 202 Red Mountain Freeway on Recker Road and those in the vicinity of Red Mountain Ranch to come forward with any relevant information through Silent Witness. Anonymity is assured, and a reward is being offered for valuable leads.
