Officer released from hospital after being run over by car; driver arrested after Loop 101 pursuit

The Peoria Police Department says the officer was investigating a suspicious car when the driver fled and ended up running over them.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — An officer was rushed to the hospital Friday night after they were run over by a car, and the driver was only arrested after a pursuit through Loop 101.

The officer, James Hunter, was flagged down by an employee saying that someone had just shoplifted, police said. The suspect then allegedly got into her vehicle. 

Hunter attempted to physically remove her from the vehicle, police said. The suspect then reportedly put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated, running over Hunter's leg and pinning him to his squad car. She then accelerated quickly away from the scene.

Officers from multiple agencies, including the injured Hunter, chased the suspect through the highway until she crashed in Glendale and was arrested around 8 p.m.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Erin Taylor was reportedly transported to the hospital with minor injuries, police said. 

She was later booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, drug possession, and DUI.

Hunter suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. He has since been discharged from the hospital.
