Grand jury indicts suspect for killing, dismembering 18-year-old in Tonto National Forest

The young victim's burned remains were found in the Tonto National Forest last summer.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — A Maricopa County grand jury has indicted the suspect accused of killing and dismembering an 18-year-old last summer in the Tonto National Forest.

Anthonie Ruinard Jr., 38, was officially charged in the death of Parker League about nine months after the victim's remains were found in a burn pile located in an area known as “The Pit.” Dental records were used to identify the victim.

Ruinard was arrested last July but the Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Friday that the suspect has recently been indicted for second-degree murder and abandoning a dead body after prosecutors spent months reviewing the large case file.

“Experienced homicide prosecutors in my office combed through nearly 4,000 pages of material submitted in this homicide case. After five months of careful review, we were able to secure this indictment,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement.

League was reportedly visiting a friend in Arizona at the time of his death.

Court records show the young victim was dropped off at a Phoenix club on June 11 shortly before Ruinard and an unknown woman were seen walking into the same club. All three individuals were seen leaving the club together about an hour later.

A blood stain allegedly found in the trunk of the suspect's vehicle tested positive for League's DNA, officials said at the time of Ruinard's arrest.
