Relentless rain leads to dangerously flooded roads across Arizona

An entire road near 7th Avenue and Coral Gales Drive was underwater after a rush of rain came.

PHOENIX — Monsoon storms caused dramatic flooding in north Phoenix and Glendale Wednesday.

In the Moon Valley area, an entire road near 7th Avenue and Coral Gables Drive was underwater after a rush of rain came. A tree fell down, making the area look more like a creek than a road.

“I’ve lived here for 35 years, but never seen the river moving like this,” said local Dave Marusich.

The water on top of Coral Gables Road was proof that relatively quick storms can cause feet of flooding.

“Anybody that tries to get in that water is nuts,” said Marusich.

About a mile away from there, a bad situation was turning worse at Moon Valley Bible Church.

This roof collapsed during a storm a few days ago when it couldn’t hold the tons of rainwater.

Crews were in mid-repair when the latest rounds of wet weather hit, making their job that much harder. Wednesday’s storms sent rain into the church as they barely finished dealing with the last dump. It will be a long time before any service happens here.

Near 43rd and Peoria avenues, several trees toppled over on an apartment complex. Luckily the trees don’t appear to have hit any windows, but they are still standing at an angle as crews continue to remove them.
