How to prepare your yard for monsoon storms

If you keep up with the overall tree and plant maintenance, your yard will be monsoon ready.

PHOENIX — We often talk about safety during monsoon storms, but your yard takes the brunt of storms and needs proper protection.

Moon Valley Nursery Regional Manager Toni Cruse explains that the first step you ever want to take in protecting your yard from monsoon storms is to prune your trees. Pockets within the tree allow the winds to flow through. Regularly trimming your trees helps to prevent extensive wind damage and minimizes debris.

Cruse also emphasizes properly staking your trees, especially during the tree's first monsoon. Lastly, deeply water your trees and plants.

The three main takeaways regarding the monsoon are properly staking, regularly trimming, and deep watering.

If you keep up with the overall tree and plant maintenance, your yard will be monsoon ready.
