Arizona weather in 2023: By the numbers

The National Weather Service shares some surprising stats about the Arizona weather in 2023.

PHOENIX — 2024 is here and before we jump headfirst in the new year, let's look back at what the weather brought Arizona in 2023.

The National Weather Service took to X (formerly Twitter) to share some of the numbers and records for the year in the Grand Canyon State.

There were several daily records set at Phoenix Sky Harbor in 2023, according to the NWS. From record highs to impressive streaks, 2023 left its mark in the record books.

Here's a breakdown:

Highs and lows

According to the NWS, 29 record highs and 35 record warm lows were recorded last year. So yeah, it was a pretty toasty summer.

Zero chill

There were zero record lows or record cold highs recorded in 2023.

We're going streaking

2023 saw some impressive streaks, including the longest streak of 110-degree highs (31 days) and the longest streak of 90-degree lows (16 days).

Bring the heat

The year also saw the most number of 110-degree+ days (55) and the most 115-degree+ days (22).

Blame it on the rain

If it felt a bit dry last year, you're right. There was only 1 day where the daily record rainfall was set; Jan. 1 with 0.43 inches.

Last year was certainly a weather roller coaster for the state. Let's see what is in store for Arizona weather in 2024.
