Victims of deadly crash near Lake Pleasant identified as ASU students

The crash happened just north of the intersection of State Route 74 and Castle Hot Springs Road near Lake Pleasant on Saturday. Here are the latest details.

PEORIA, Ariz. — Two college students have died and two others injured after a bad crash on Saturday, according to the Peoria Police Department

Police said those killed in the crash were two men from India, Nivesh Mukka and Goutham Parsi, both 19. Arizona State University said they were both international students.

The two-vehicle rollover crash happened north of Peoria, on Castle Hot Springs Road, in between the Lake Pleasant Access Road and State Route 74.

A Kia Forte and Ford F150 were involved in a head-on crash, according to police.

One person was in the F150. That person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but has since been released.

Three people, including the two who died, were in the Forte. That car's driver was sent to the hospital with serious injuries but has since been released. Mukka and Parsi died at the scene of the crash.

Police said they do not yet know if speed or impairment were factors in this crash.

Castle Hot Springs Road, in both directions, reopened at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning after being closed for several hours as the crash is investigated.

"Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everybody who rendered aid during this tragic incident," police said.
