GLENDALE, Ariz. — Drivers on Loop 101 in the West Valley could experience longer than usual commutes because of a major ramp closure at 51st Avenue in Glendale.

The Arizona Department of Transportation began restricting the eastbound and westbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) off-ramps at 51st Avenue on Monday for a city of Phoenix waterline project. The ramps and frontage road will be restricted to one through lane and one right turn lane, with no left turns available onto 51st Avenue, through midnight on April 14.

According to ADOT, starting at 12:01 a.m. on April 15, the eastbound and westbound off-ramps and Loop 101 frontage roads at 51st Avenue will be closed until Aug. 24.

ADOT officials recommend drivers use the eastbound or westbound Loop 101 off-ramps at 59th Avenue and travel south to Union Hills Drive, then east to 51st Avenue. They also advise drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway

As always, please stay alert and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through work zones.
