PHOENIX — A man is dead following a four-vehicle crash in the West Valley, police said.

Phoenix police officers responded to the area near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street around 8:30 p.m. regarding a crash that involved four vehicles and multiple injuries.

When officers got to the scene, they found two men driving two of the vehicles involved in the crash, both with serious injuries, police said. One man, later identified as 27-year-old Daniel Barcelo, was taken to a nearby hospital but died. The other driver was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition with serious injuries.

In total, four vehicles were involved, but only the drivers of two vehicles were injured, police said.

Police preliminary information suggests the vehicle driven by Barcelo was driving west on Van Buren Street near 52nd Avenue, when for unknown reasons it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the other three vehicles involved.

Police did not release any other information about the crash.
