Scooter crash in central Phoenix leaves 1 dead

PHOENIX — A man is dead following a crash in central Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Phoenix police officers were called to the area of 12th Avenue and Washington Street at 8:20 p.m. on Friday night for a crash involving a motorized scooter. Officers and fire personnel found 60-year-old Edwin Rodriguez, who had been riding the scooter, with serious injuries. Rodriguez was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Police said preliminary information suggests Rodriguez was crossing Washington Street on a motorized scooter and a vehicle driving west hit him. The woman who was driving the vehicle that hit Rodriguez stayed at the scene and spoke to detectives. Her identity was not released.
