Spencer Rattler returns home, ready for NFL Draft

The former Pinnacle High School quarterback is on to life's next chapter, getting ready for the NFL Draft in April.

PHOENIX — College quarterback Spencer Rattler is back in the Valley imparting his football knowledge to a new generation of playcallers.

"Some of these guys I've known since they're 6 or 7 years old," said Spencer Rattler.

They've grown up together.

"We just call it family," said private quarterback coach Mike Giovando. "Like once you're with us, you're with us for life."

Rattler is from Phoenix and said he remembers the days of coming to Giovando's camp as a 10-year-old.

"Kind of proud seeing these youngins come up and do it, but you know, not long ago I was one of them," said Rattler.

They're all grown up. Rattler, along with a handful of other former Valley quarterbacks including former Gilbert quarterback Jack Plummer, is back in town to pass down some knowledge.

"They're here just to share their knowledge and they love it," said Giovando.

"I think there's been so many quarterbacks coming out of Arizona," said Rattler. "I tell people where one of, if not the best quarterback state out there."

Arms of all ages, including Leo Valencia, who drove two and a half hours from Yuma to get some work in.

"I think I woke up at 4:30 a.m. and left by 5:30 a.m.," said Valencia. "It's really cool. He (Rattler) was really the guy I really looked up to all my career. He's the reason why I started to like playing quarterback."

"I had a lot of fun in college, a lot of success, a lot of adversity," said Rattler. "But that's just part of being a quarterback and being a leader. You got to go through all of it. I'm blessed to be here and ready to work and move on to the next level."

Rattler has seen it all. From being one of the best QBs to ever come out of Arizona, to Heisman hype at Oklahoma, to finishing his college career lighting it up at South Carolina the past two seasons. Rattler re-established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 class.

"He's ready and prepared," said Giovando.

"Looking forward to playing with the best," said Rattler. "It's a goal I've been having since I was a kid and they (an NFL team) are going to get a dog, a competitor, a great quarterback, and overall leader."
