Centennial defensive end Noah Carter decommits from Washington, re-opens recruiting

Carter made the move in the wake of head coach Kalen DeBoer's move to become Alabama's new head coach. He is expected to be released from his NLI.

PEORIA, Ariz. — One of the best high school football players in Arizona is back on the market after Centennial edge rusher Noah Carter announced on Saturday that he is decommitting from Washington and re-opening his recruiting.

This move comes just days after Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer left the school to become the new head coach at the University of Alabama. Carter is expected to be released from his National Letter of Intent, which he signed in December, next week.

The news was first reported by Jacob Seliga from ArizonaVarsity.com.

Carter is a four-star prospect and ranked as the 96th-best player in the nation, according to 247Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 8 edge rusher and No. 2 overall player in Arizona.

Carter will become one of the top available prospects ahead of National Signing Day on February 7. He will have plenty of options as he had 11 offers, including ones from Arizona and Arizona State, before signing with Washington during the early signing period.

He is the second Washington recruit to leave the program amid DeBoer's departure following defensive tackle Dominic Kirks from Ohio.

Carter, who was selected as the 2023 Friday Night Fever Defensive Player of the Year, was a two-way player for head coach Richard Taylor and the Centennial Coyotes. He had 55 tackles and 11 sacks in his senior season along with eight receiving touchdowns and two punt-return touchdowns to help lead the Coyotes to the Open Division state championship game. In his high school career, Carter had 96 tackles (68 solo), four tackles for loss and 25 sacks.

Carter was also named the Arizona Cardinals High School Defensive Player of the Year.

Carter played in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, earlier this month, and was seen as one of the players whose stock rose the most due to their performance in both practices and the game.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they are announced.
