On the Mark: There's a bigger danger to children than vaping that we're failing to address

There is no doubt vaping products are harming our kids, but the number of vaping-related deaths doesn't come close to the number of gun-related deaths.

As I write this I know some of you will misinterpret what I am trying to say. I have already fielded calls and emails accusing me of “trying to take my guns away."

Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I believe in the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment.

However, we have our priorities screwed up.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not minimizing the dangers of vaping, but if you think that vaping is as much of a problem as gun violence—if you think vaping presents the same dangers to your teens and children as a madman with a gun, well, you probably should click out of this article right now.

I’m bothered that our leaders on Capitol Hill are so ready to pass legislation to outlaw flavored e-cigarette products but still have done NOTHING to address the real danger, which is gun violence. Not gun owners—gun violence.

Since the most recent mass shooting all we’ve heard is talk, empty promises that SOMETHING will get done.

Well, I’m tired of holding my breath for change. I’ve given up thinking that our leaders have the backbone to stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby.

Here is this week's On the Mark.
