TUCSON, Ariz. — The New York Police Department will now have a presence in Tucson.

The NYPD will be sending officers to Arizona and Bogota, Columbia, as part of the department's International Liaison Program. The official in Tucson will work with US Customs & Border Protection on issues related to fentanyl searches, transnational criminal organizations that may have connections to New York City and the migrant crisis.

“These posts will help the NYPD address the myriad issues that are coming across our southern border, from guns to drugs to people,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner told the New York Post.

The liaison program sends officers to law enforcement agencies in major cities around the world and is part of the NYPD Intelligence Bureau.
