WATCH: McCain, a big Diamondbacks fan, honored at game Sunday

The Arizona Diamondbacks and their fans honored Sen. John McCain at the game with a moment of silence Sunday.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recognized the passing of one of their biggest fans at the game Sunday.

Players and fans participated in a moment of silence in honor of Sen. John McCain Sunday during the team's game against the Seattle Mariners.

McCain passed away Saturday after a 13-month battle with brain cancer.

Fans also gave McCain a standing ovation Saturday, hours after news of his passing.

Before his cancer diagnosis last year, McCain was a regular at Arizona sporting events.

The Diamondbacks also hung a jersey in their dugout with the name "McCain" on the back, with No. 18.

McCain mentioned in 2017 that he was up late watching the Arizona Diamondbacks play, leading to strange questions during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing with former FBI director James Comey.

D-backs President Derrick Hall said McCain has "always been a member of the D-backs' family and was one of this team's biggest fans since day one."

Former Diamondbacks star Luis Gonzalez says McCain was "not only a great man and patriot, but a great D-backs fan."
