Recent Valley drownings are a reminder that drownings can happen anytime

Three children in the past two weeks have died from drowning in the Valley. Here's what you can do to keep yourself and your children safe.

PHOENIX — Three children have drowned and died in the Valley over the past two weeks. 12News journalist Jade Cunningham breaks down ways to keep yourself and your children safe in the water. 

"This is a reminder that a drowning can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone," Cunningham said. 

Cunningham said the families she has spoken to want people to know that drowning can happen to anyone and that having multiple forms of protection is crucial.

Here are water safety tips to keep yourself and your loved ones safe:

  • Constant supervision with no distractions
  • Swim lessons
  • Strong, sturdy fencing with a working latch around any pools
  • Adding a lock to gated entrances to pools 
  • Door alarms or locks
  • Don't forget about other exits, such as doggy doors
