MESA, Ariz. - Anyone looking to drive through a stretch of east Mesa for the next couple days is going to have to find an alternate route. That's because three sinkholes have opened in the area.
Elliott Road is closed from Signal Butte to Ellsworth. The sinkholes are right next to trench lines from three different contractors. The City of Mesa says they're closing the stretch of road until the sinkholes are checked out and fixed.
The city also says they're working with developers and contractors to make sure it's safe for drivers, and construction is to blame for the ground opening up. There are several projects happening right now, which are private and public.
Drivers can expect the road to open up on Thursday. Alternate routes until then are Ray and Guadalupe.
