Friends ask public for help in SR 51 shooting case; reward now $21,000

Police announced in a news conference Monday that the reward for information leading to an arrest in the shooting death of Dinya Farmer is now $21,000.

PHOENIX - Police announced in a news conference Tuesday that the reward for information leading to an arrest in the shooting death of Dinya Farmer is now $21,000.

Farmer was followed, shot and killed on State Route 51 in September.

Farmer was headed from westbound Interstate 10 to SR 51 when police said she called 911 and described a truck following her. The 911 operator heard shots and the call ended.

Officers found Farmer's car crashed into the center median. She later died at a hospital.

"It's everybody's worst nightmare," said Deanna Jordan, who was Farmer's former boss. "Being followed? And then being shot?"

Making it even more of a nightmare, the case if at a stand-still. Investigators need your help to bring the family some closure.

"Tips have been reviewed, researched and investigated," said Phoenix PD Sgt. Eric Lumley. "At this point we're still looking for addition tips to assist us in this."

They've already received tips regarding the possible vehicle involved. They now are hoping to get information about possible suspects, tips from anything fishy seen on social media and anything that could advance the case.

Meantime, those who knew her are still heartbroken by the loss of a woman described as a gentle soul.

"[She had] that effervescent smile," said Jordan. "When she looked at you and smiled, you knew all was well."

But the family is left without that reassuring smile as head into the holiday season.

Police are still asking for the public's help.
