3 injured after car crashes into north Phoenix bus stop

Firefighters said there were numerous people waiting for the bus when the crash happened.

PHOENIX — Three people were left with serious or critical injuries after a car crashed into a bus stop near Greenway Parkway and Cave Creek Road Thursday night.

A 22-year-old woman driving a 2016 Volkswagen was trying to make a left turn from 27th Street to Greenway Parkway when she failed to yield to the right of way and crashed into a 56-year-old woman driving a 2008 Nissan Altima.

The Nissan then veered to the right and left the roadway, crashing into three pedestrians waiting at a nearby bus stop.

A 24-year-old man was on the sidewalk by the bus stop when he was struck and suffered extremely critical injuries. A 46-year-old man suffered serious injuries and a 17-year-old boy suffered critical injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons. The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured.

Impairment does not appear to have been a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sky 12 video showed the bus stop awning completely collapsed and people being taken away from the scene on stretchers.
