PHOENIX – Nineteen restaurants had their permits revoked in 2016 after the county found multiple violations of employees not washing their hands, cockroaches and food that can make you sick.
But what happens to the companies that continue to make the same mistakes over and over again? They could get shut down if they consecutively violate the same priority issues.
When a restaurant has a permit revoked, the health reports are taken offline and become public record.
According to the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department, the county gives restaurants numerous opportunities to fix any problem, but when they continue to persist, the county takes legal action.
Some of 19 restaurants have applied for a new permit, like Rice Paper in Downtown Phoenix. The permit was revoked in December of 2016. In the same month, a new permit was issued. The business shut down on Friday.
