FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — One person has died in a skiing accident at Snowbowl in Flagstaff, according to officials.

The person's name has not been released.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said the person was seriously injured on Monday after crashing into a tree. Emergency crews, including Guardian Medical Transport, responded to help the injured person but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies at the scene said the skier was initially skiing on the Upper Ridge run, which is labeled with a "black diamond" or "most difficult" terrain rating.  They believe the skier lost control and skied just outside a boundary line, resulting in him running into the tree.

Other skiers in the area saw the accident and notified emergency services. Ski patrol personnel attempted lifesaving efforts, with the skier being transported to the nearest first aid station. They were unable to save the skier.

The sheriff's office said the deceased individual was a 22-year-old man from Tempe.
