Kingman police shoot suspect after a gun was waved at officers

The Kingman Police Department said the incident happened on Friday near Western and Golden Gate avenues.

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A suspect connected to a reported domestic violence incident was shot by police in Kingman on Friday night, according to authorities.

The Kingman Police Department said the incident happened at around 7:40 p.m. near Western and Golden Gate avenues.

Officers responded to a home in the area. When the arrived to the scene, a suspect identified as  Andrew Philip Romero, 39 of Kingman, came out of the home with a gun, according to police.

"Romero refused officers commands to drop the firearm. Romero pointed the firearm towards officers. An officer fired their weapon striking Romero," police said in a news release.

Romero was given medical aid on scene and taken to the hospital for further treatment. He is listed as being in critical condition.

No one else was injured in the incident police said.

The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Lake Havasu City Police Department investigates the shooting.

Anyone who has information on a crime or recognizes a suspect described by the program is asked to call 480-948-6377, go to the program's website online or download the Silent Witness app to provide a tip. The identity of anyone who submits a tip is kept anonymous.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
