UArizona planning to resume in-person classes in fall

The college intends to fill classrooms when the semester begins August 24, but that plan could still change.

PHOENIX — The University of Arizona is planning to resume in-person classes for students during the fall semester, according to university president Robert Robbins.

The college transitioned to online courses for the whole campus in March after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Classes will remain online for the rest of the spring semester.

Robbins says they’re planning to fill classrooms when the semester begins August 24, but that plan could still change.

“We will honor all local, state and federal protective measures that apply, and, of course, there are many factors that remain beyond our control,” he said. ”However, we are tackling what is within our control to ensure our students have the opportunity for a full on-campus experience.”

UArizona is also providing 250,000 antibody tests for Arizona healthcare workers during the outbreak, and Robbins says the college intends on expanding the program for students and faculty to help create strategies for reopening the campus.
