Jeff Bezos bringing 5 full-day preschools to the Valley

The Amazon founder finally unveiled the Mesa locations he has been considering for months.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Parents in Glendale and Mesa will soon have new preschool options for their children, courtesy of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The Bezos Academy program recently announced that it will be bringing five full-day preschools to the Valley over the next few months with space for around 400 children.

The new preschools will be located at Desert Garden Elementary School and Glencroft Center for Modern Aging in Glendale, and Sandra Day O’Connor Elementary School, Charles D. Poston Junior High School and Fremont Junior High School in Mesa.

They are partnering with Glendale Elementary School District, Mesa Public Schools, and the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging. Bezos Academy hasn't announced their target opening dates yet.

The Bezos Academy began offering full-day, tuition-free preschool programs to sites around the country a few years ago after Bezos committed $2 billion to bankroll the project.

The network of "Montessori-inspired" preschools have opened up in Texas, Washington, Florida, and now Arizona. The preschools operate in existing elementary schools or college campuses and are intended to serve areas populated with low-income families.

Each classroom in a Bezos Academy campus enrolls no more than 20 students and all its teachers are licensed in the respective state they work in, according to the organization's website.
