The person who called police said that the suspect, who was one of their neighbors, drove up to their home in his truck, pulled out a handgun and shot into the street before yelling and driving away, according to police.

The officer found the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Christian Avalos Gonzales, down the street at his home. Gonzales was in his driveway and had a handgun. The officer told Gonzales to drop the gun, but he did not, and he shot at the officer, according to police.

The officer fired back and shot Gonzales, who was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Glendale police are investigating this shooting. Detectives at the scene did find a gun.

No one other than Gonzales was hurt.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they are made available.
