Mesa police searching for suspects who fled the scene after bus crash

Police said the bus was headed westbound on Broadway Monday night when a pickup truck ran a stop sign and hit the bus.

MESA, Arizona — Mesa police are still looking for two people they said were in a truck that caused a bus to crash into a home in Mesa.

Police said the Valley Metro bus was headed westbound on Broadway Monday night when a pickup truck ran a stop sign and hit the bus.

That impact sent the bus across oncoming traffic and into some parked cars and a nearby house.

Two people inside the house were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, a police spokesman said.

Three others on the bus were treated for cuts and bruises and possibly a broken rib.

Another man in a parked car near the house was treated for a possible broken arm.

In all, Mesa Police said nine people were hurt in the crash.

The spokesman said there were two people in the truck that hit the bus and witnesses told officers those two grabbed bags from the truck and ran away.

The police spokesman said investigators are trying to find them by figuring out who owns the truck, as well as by using video from cameras on and in the bus.

The house is currently unlivable and has major structural damage, he said.
