Roosevelt Row eatery changes name to avoid lawsuit from furniture company

The restaurant is taking the whole thing in stride and even held a contest where patrons could come up with a new name.

PHOENIX — A Roosevelt Row eatery is staying positive even after being forced to change its name.

The popular restaurant "Lovesack Dumplings" was threatened with a lawsuit by another business with a similar name, "Lovesac," a furniture company

“It’s just the reality of things, they are a bigger corporation, they do have more recognition and more influence,” said Mahdiyya Oke, the restaurant's general manager.

The lawsuit threat came even after the restaurant's name was approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

The dumpling shop, however, is taking the whole thing in stride and turning a negative situation into a positive one.

“You have to make the best out of a bad situation,” said Oke.

They even came up with a contest that gets the community involved— a chance to pick a new name for the restaurant.

“It’s been a really fun way to communicate with our community,” Oke said.

And the community did not disappoint with its creativity.

“So we’ve had so many different suggestions from ‘Sack of Dump’ to ‘Lovebox’ to one person said ‘Holy Sacrimony’ for a name," said Oke. "We just had lots of fun with different little name suggestions and it helps us connect with our community and that's what we love.”

But even with all the great suggestions, only one could win.

The restaurant eventually decided on "Love-Bite" as the new name.

Oke sees nothing but a bright future ahead.

“Stay tuned for more good food and good vibes and a great community,” she said.
