PHOENIX — The Frosted Bakehouse in Ahwatukee is a small business concept born out of a Valley kitchen.
Kristina Diaz and Celeste Figueroa are the two women behind the sweets shop. They happen to be best friends and finally opened their own brick-and-mortar.
"We met at a local high-end grocery chain working together, we went our own ways in management but stayed in contact daily and eventually our friendship flourished. We wouldn't do this with anyone else but each other," they said.
While small businesses were negatively impacted by the pandemic, cutting staff and others closing altogether, this is a dream come true for this pair who persevered through hurdles and doubts.
"We started our businesses before the pandemic but added contactless pickup for monthly sales to help customers get their sweets fix and it really helped drive sales during the pandemic and our customers have stuck with us ever since," they said.
Diaz, who previously owned KD Cakes based out of Chandler, and Figueroa, who previously owned Celly's Sweets in Mesa, decided to collaborate and open their own business that started as an idea back in the summer of 2021.
"We contemplated food trucks, maybe a pop-up trailer, then flirted with the idea of a commercial kitchen rental until ultimately deciding to follow our dreams and open a storefront," the two shared.
The women said Frosted Bakehouse is a scratch-made bakery and coffee house that features fun treats that will take you back to yesteryear.
"We wanted to offer daily favorites like coffee but also have variations of cupcakes, an exclusive selection of breakfast items, cookies, cinnamon rolls, grab-n-go cakes and more," they added.
Plus, the menu includes coffee beverages, fresh lemonades, energy drinks and protein shakes.
"We strive to provide our customers with a nostalgic atmosphere where they can enjoy our treats with their friends and family," the women said.
