Arizona woman bitten by javalina while out with her dogs

AZ Game and Fish said javelinas cannot distinguish between coyotes, which are known to prey on javelinas, and dogs.

ARIZONA, USA — The Arizona Game and Fish Department is warning everyone to avoid javelinas after a woman was recently bitten.

The incident happened southeast of Tucson in Pearce.

The 68-year-old woman was bitten while out with her dogs. The javelina got into a fight with the dogs and when the woman tried to break it up, she was bitten on her shin.

She was treated at a local hospital and released.

AZ Game and Fish said javelinas cannot distinguish between coyotes, which are known to prey on javelinas, and dogs.

Back in November 2022, AZ Game and Fish said another Arizona woman was bitten by a javelina while she was illegally feeding the animal.
