PHOENIX — Need something fun to do tonight? Look no further than downtown Phoenix's First Friday Art Walk, located at the heart of Roosevelt Row.

First Friday includes countless local businesses, artisans and opportunities to enjoy the urban landscape of downtown Phoenix. The free event draws thousands of people of all ages each month and was started in 1994 by Artlink.

Looking to take part? Here's what you need to know:

When is First Friday?

First Friday runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on May 3, but some vendors set up prior to 6 p.m. If you are looking to drive to the event, Visit Phoenix recommends heading out early to find parking, or foregoing the car altogether and opting to take the Valley Metro Light Rail to the "Roosevelt/Central Ave" station.

Where is First Friday?

First Friday is a sprawling event, where you can find things to do on Roosevelt Row and the historic Grand Avenue as well as nearby city museums and attractions, including the Phoenix Art Museum, Heard Museum and the Japanese Friendship Garden. Visit Phoenix recommends using the Phoenix Urban Guide map.

What to expect

Many roads are closed off for First Friday festivities, which can be disorienting for those driving to downtown for the event. There are countless vendors, musicians and artists at First Friday and the event itself is free admission, with the opportunity to purchase locally made goods and food. There are food trucks and local restaurants too, if you're looking for a bit to eat as well!
