Rain, cold, wind — oh my! When was the last time it was this cold on Easter in the Valley?

Since 1896, there have only been 11 Easters when Phoenix received a trace or more of rainfall.

PHOENIX — High winds are making their way into Arizona on Saturday and Sunday is shaping up to be a stormy holiday.

As we prep for the upcoming rainy weather, we take a look at the past Easter holidays in the state and see how this year's expected weather stacks up.

While the dates of Easter vary each year, Phoenix's 10-year average high temperature is a toasty 89.8 F.

  • April 9, 2023: 89 
  • April 17, 2022: 92 
  • April 4, 2021: 98 (record high temperature)
  • April 12, 2020: 77 (record low temperature of 52 F that day)
  • April 21, 2019: 90 
  • April 1, 2018: 93 
  • April 16, 2017: 91 
  • March 27, 2016: 87 
  • April 5, 2015: 89 
  • April 20, 2014: 92 

The warmest Easter ever recorded in Phoenix was on April 15, 1990 when the high temperature soared to 100 degrees.

Phoenix's coolest Easter occurred on March 28, 1937, with a high temperature of 57.

As you might guess, yes, rain on Easter in Phoenix is rare. Since 1896, there have only been 11 Easters when Phoenix received a trace or more of rainfall. The year 1999 was the last Easter Phoenix saw rain. March 26, 1989 holds the record for the most rain in Phoenix on Easter, when 1.19 inches fell.

While the lower deserts are starting to heat up, Flagstaff averages 54 to 61 degrees on March 22 through April 25. Over the last 10 Easters, Flagstaff has averaged a high temperature of 63.4 degrees.
