Has the Arizona heat left your iPhone too hot to function? You're not alone.
With the recent heat wave, many people have experienced the dreaded "too hot to function" screen on their iPhone.
Part of the problem: The temperature in Phoenix is often higher than what an iPhone is built to handle.
According to Apple, an iPhone is made to operate between 32 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and can be stored in temperatures between -4 and 113 degrees.
If the device exceeds these temperatures, you will see a warning screen saying that the "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it."
At this point, the phone will stop charging, the display will go dim or black, the camera flash is temporarily disabled, and the cellular radio will enter a low-power state (which may weaken your signal).
According to an Apple Care representative, there are three things you can do to protect your iPhone:
1. Never leave it in a car on a hot day
2. Don't leave it in direct sunlight for extended periods of time
3. Reduce usage of certain features such as GPS track or navigation, or playing a graphics-intensive game
One other trick you can try: Leave your phone in airplane mode if you're outside and don't need it. This will keep it cooler until you do need to use it.
If you do see the warning screen, get your phone functioning again as quickly as possibly by turning it off, moving it to a cooler environment and allowing it to cool down.
And seriously, never leave it in your car.
