Roadways reopen after snowstorm

The Arizona Department of Transportation temporarily closed several roads after winter weather caused dangerous driving conditions.

FORT MCDOWELL, Ariz. — A winter storm arrived in Arizona causing rain and snow to fall across the state, creating dangerous driving conditions and leading the Arizona Department of Transportation to close roads in several places. 

While most of these have since reopened, drivers can expect delays as traffic clears up.

The closures were made due to the weather causing crashes and cars to slide off roads. Here is a list of all of the current closures.  

Winter Weather Road Closures

Current closures:

There are no current major highway closures.

Previous closures:

  • Interstate 40 eastbound at US Highway 93
  • Interstate 40 westbound at milepost 252 in Winslow 
  • Interstate 40 eastbound at milepost 146 in Ash Fork 
  • Interstate 40 eastbound between US 93 and Ash Fork
  • Interstate 40 westbound is closed between Holbrook and Williams
  • Interstate 40 westbound at milepost 158 in Williams 
  • State Route 87 southbound at milepost 338 in Winslow 
  • State Route 89A in Sedona in both directions between mileposts 375-397 
  • State Route 64 in both directions at milepost 243

UPDATE: State Route 87 northbound at Bush Highway re-opened at about 3 p.m. 

ADOT says drivers who choose to travel on roads when winter driving conditions are present should be prepared to spend an extended amount of time on the road. Tracking the forecast and packing an emergency travel kit before traveling are two ways ADOT recommends preparing for winter travel.
