'So proud': Valley cheers on Brock Purdy in Super Bowl LVIII

The quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers is from Queen Creek.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Brock Purdy didn't get a Super Bowl Championship ring, but his performance in Sunday's game kept fans on their toes all the way 'til the end.

A group of close family friends cheered the Queen Creek native on and watched from home as Purdy played in his first Super Bowl game.

"Absolutely unreal, unreal," Robin Swift said.

Purdy quickly rose to success as the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, but he got his start playing for the Perry High School Pumas in Gilbert.

The group watching on Sunday have been cheering Purdy on since flag football.

“Friday night lights were our Friday nights," Roz Eldridge said. “We knew this day was coming before the world knew this day was coming and we’re just so excited to celebrate with him.”

Family friends told 12News they couldn't be more proud of Purdy.

“This kid has had a vision from day one and he’s living it out," Eldridge said.

Keri Stewart said it didn't come as a surprise to see Purdy achieve such success so quickly.

“He’s always been extremely driven, very humble and an amazing young man," Stewart said.

Through it all, they said he's always stayed true to himself.

“He’s exactly who you guys see on TV. A thousand percent authentic, genuine. His entire family is like that," Swift said.

Despite Sunday's loss, friends know this won't be Purdy's last shot at a Super Bowl Championship ring.

“We love him. We’re here to support him. So, so, so proud and hopefully he hears us cheering from Arizona," Swift said.
