Cardinals' Nicole Bidwill cheers up Valley boy after bike accident

Arcadia assistant football coach Grant Sanders' 7-year-old son was in a major bike accident. But an act of kindness from Nicole Bidwill helped cheer him up.

PHOENIX — Playing in the front yard with his kids, Arcadia assistant football coach Grant Sanders can’t help but think about a phone call he got this past Monday.

Sanders’ 7-year-old son Devin was riding his bike with family when all of sudden he crashed.

Devin fell helmet first on the concrete. He was immediately rushed the Phoenix Children's hospital.

“Thankfully, he had his helmet on or it would’ve been a different outcome,” said Coach Sanders. “Lots of road rash, he (Devin) suffered a facial fracture, and just scared mostly as 7-year-old would be.”

When they got back home on Tuesday, Coach Sanders posted about what Devin had been through on social media. That’s when he got a message from Nicole Bidwill, the sister of Cardinals Chairman and President Michael Bidwill, of Devin’s favorite football team.

“She asked if we could do a video chat (with Devin) at home,” said Coach Sanders. “They have these two therapy dogs, Hank and Hercules, and they do a lot of charity work and hospital visits at PHC with those therapy dogs.”

So Devin hopped on a video call with Nicole, Hank and Hercules. It was the first time he had smiled in days. Then on Thursday, Nicole stopped by with some swag.

“It meant the word to us, because right now, in this time for crisis, nobody wants to interact with one another. For someone (that’s the family didn’t know) to reach out, for somebody to care (about Devin) other then family, just meant the word to us.”
